I kinda call this The Big Read with the understanding that more information is a plus for most people. For quite a while I have shared my home with persons coming to Rochester for more or less temporary assignments lasting from 3 months to 2 years. Now well over 110 persons to date! As of late, the house guests have been more medical people on temporary 3 month assignments who appreciate paying somewhat less than AriB&b rates and yet be in one of Rochester's most desired areas. Since they have worked out well, that's the direction I'd like to go, but other non medical professionals / grad students , and college instructors could be welcome. 1. It is in Rochester's Park Ave area. Nearby are three supermarkets: Wegmans, Aldies and PricerIte. Lots of restaurants and coffee spots are close., Cobbs Hill Park, with great running and walking areas as well as tennis, baseball and basketball areas is nearby. For sure check it on the internet! 2 .Communicate first by email. I like the written word. See the last part of this document for the process. 3 The environment is totally nonsmoking and pet free. 4. The fee averages $775 per month over three months. Month 1 is $850, month 2 is $800 and month 3 is $675, After 3 months $ 775 which includes laundry and internet and ordinary utilities. 5. It is a Quiet Enjoyment abode, meaning it is a non party pad and not a loud music/voice environment. Day sleepers say "no problem." 6 It is a place where housemates are expected to do an hour or so worth of housework/ maintenance per week. 7 Not too much personal stuff. There is a limited amount of storage space. Needed furniture and such is provided. Multiple vehicles not desired, although a car and a light to medium motorbike or Vespa might be OK. In warm weather I can supply a bicycle under certain circumstances. 8. Age and comfort level. As good fate would have it, because of the year I was born, I am an old guy, but most of my housemates have been in their 20s -50s. 9. Friendship. You should be friendly to live here in a shared environment but developing strong friendships with other housemates is not a requirement. Personality dynamics and social needs determine that. . Past housemates have been largely a great group of people which have included: Doctors, respiratory therapists, nurses and medical lab technicians on temporary assignments. Physical therapy interning students from Ithaca College, Boston U. and Quinnipiac University. Incoming college/university instructors. Contract engineers at L3 Harris. Eastman School of Music grad students and teaching staff at St. John Fisher, U of R and RIT. German students doing internships at Gleasonworks. Grad students interning at Xerox Kent State language translation interns. Computer and I.T. people on temporary assignments at Rochester companies and universities. People doing research or training in matters photographic at Eastman House... mostly French and German. It has been a great mix of male and female from about 22 different states and the following countries: Australia, Austria, both Chinas, Cameroon , Columbia, England, France, Ghana, Germany, India, Japan, Jamaica, Korea, Nigeria, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Vietnam . Below is some important info: THE PROCESS Communications and information requirements: As this is a private shared home, it is necessary to have some background info to assure you would be a good fit. More info is good. Scant info, not so good. Here are the several steps we would have to take to possibly make a housing arrangement. 1. You email me telling me about yourself and your assignment in Rochester and the factors of shared living that are important to you. Consider it a "Letter of Introduction." Ask questions at this time. The email address can be found by clicking the "Booking Request" or " Send Owner a Message" parts on this page. 2. If you seem to be a good fit for the existing situation, at this point we will have further communications answering any important questions that might come up. 3. If it appears you would work out fine, I will inform you and send some information on the business end. 4. At this point if you want to confirm and hold a spot, it should be possible. The information needed is probably the same info you would want from a person, unknown to you, who might want to share your home. Thank you for your interest and patience. I hope you find housing that meets your needs. Cheers, Bob Pitkin
