The Hermitage offers the best of country living in the city. This one-bedroom in-law apartment (320 sq ft) is adorable and filled with light, built from reclaimed materials with an eye to whimsy and creature comfort. Kitchenette with counter seating, full-sized bed with brand new Sealy Medium Euro Top mattress, compact bathroom with waterfall showerhead, closet and ample storage space. Your own entrance offers complete privacy from the homeowner, who lives upstairs. One spot off-street parking. Vibrant, diverse neighborhood a 10-minute walk from the best of downtown Troy: the year-round Saturday Farmers market, restaurants and bars, public library, Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, galleries, cute boutiques, excellent coffee shops, and more. Two laundromats within 0.2 miles (less than 5 minute walk) from the door. Steps away from public transportation to Albany, Schenectady, the airport, and the Amtrak station. Ten minute walk to Sage College and 15 to RPI. Eight miles to Albany Med, about six miles to St. Peter's or Albany Memorial, two miles to Samaritan, thirty miles to Saratoga Hospital. An easy drive to Lake George, Tanglewood and the Berkshires, the Adirondack Park and High Peaks, Jacobs Pillow, Mass MoCA, and skiing at Hunter Mountain, Butternut, or Gore. Out your kitchen window, a view of the Poestenkill Canal, where I regularly see herons, ducks, geese, mergansers, and other wildlife. Lovely garden and yard at your disposal, with table and chairs for outdoor dining, and fresh lettuce, herbs, and raspberries for picking. Virginia, the homeowner, is a writer and teacher who has called Troy home for 25 years. She loves this community and is happy to share her secrets for the best local ice cream, drive-in movies, arts and culture, minor-league baseball, local bands, shopping, eating, hiking, swimming holes, and snowshoeing. She's also a great chef who is happy to share homemade granola, yogurt, and bread. There are two cats in the house, who you are welcome to befriend, but they do not have access to your apartment.
