What's the total monthly cost? Ask for rent plus utilities, so you know the real number.
How much is the deposit, and when is it returned?
Are there one-time fees, such as for cleaning, pets or parking?
How is rent paid, and when is it due?
Dates
What's the minimum stay?
Can I extend if I need to, and how much notice do you need?
What happens if I need to leave early?
The place
What's included? Ask about linens, kitchen supplies, laundry and how fast the Wi-Fi is.
Where do I park, and is there storage for bikes, skis or gear?
Is anyone else on the property? Ask whether the owner lives in the main house and whether any spaces are shared.
Rules and move-out
What are the house rules on pets, smoking, guests and quiet hours?
What's expected at move-out? Ask about the cleaning standard, key return and checkout time.
